My brother recently graduated from college and started his first job as an engineer. His birthday is coming up and since I’m still in graduate school and don’t have a lot of money, I can’t think of any under-$50 gift ideas. Any thoughts?

Maybe get him a book, movie, or video game that you think he would like. Or a gift certificate for a dinner for 2 at his favorite restaurant so he can go on a date.

You can get some personalised portraits for your brother done at http://www.paintyourlife.com according to your specifications. I am sure you know what he likes – pets, famous personalities, musicians, etc. Get some photos of those things or personalities and send them to this company’s professional artists, who will turn them into a classical-looking oil painting or other type of portrait. They have great gift ideas for every occasion!
They also do wonderful photo-printing on canvas in different designs. Please take a look at http://www.photo-print-on-canvas.com for more information.

He could make use of a zippo lighter, even if he doesn’t smoke. It’ll make a good gift for men his age. Check this out http://www.executivegiftshoppe.com/zippo-lighters.html
